Remarks by Ms. Rabab Fatima at Welcome Reception for LDC Future Forum

H.E. Mr. Mulambo Haimbe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Zambia, [TBC]
H.E. Mr. Ville Tavio, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development of Finland,
Excellencies,
Distinguished Colleagues,

It is a pleasure to join Minister Tavio to welcome you all to this reception, as we gather here in this beautiful city of Lusaka for the 3rd LDC Future Forum.

At the outset, I express my heartfelt appreciation to the Government of Zambia for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to us since our arrival here.

I also wish to thank the Government of Finland for its generous and steadfast support.

Finland has a longstanding tradition of upholding the values and principles of the United Nations and supporting those who are the furthest behind.

True to this spirit, they have consistently placed LDC priorities at the forefront of its foreign policy and remains a steadfast partner in implementing the Doha Programme of Action-the DPOA.

Thank you, Mr. Minister, and your dedicated team for your support.

I wish to also thank the UN Resident Coordinator, Beatrice Mutali, and her wonderful team, and the ECA Sub-regional Office for South Africa for their invaluable support in organizing the Forum.

To all of you who have travelled from near and far to be here - your presence is a testament to your commitment to the objectives of this Forum, and to the LDCs.

We have just concluded an extremely successful LDC National Focal points meeting today; and their active engagement will continue to enrich our deliberations over the next three days.

Excellencies, Colleagues,

The theme of this 3rd Forum: ¡°Enhancing Resilience in the LDCs¡±, is both timely and urgent.

It is not only central to the DPOA¡¯s priority area on climate change and disaster risk reduction, but cuts across all six priority areas.  This will contribute to our collective efforts to strengthen LDCs¡¯ capacity to withstand and recover from multiple and intersecting crises.

Over the next three days, our discussions will focus on innovative solutions and meaningful partnerships to help LDCs navigate the complex challenges of climate change and other vulnerabilities.

We will explore practical approaches from multiple perspectives, spotlight success stories, and identify actionable pathways toward building resilience.

Our focus will include key sectors - agriculture, water and energy ¨C all are critical for food security, sustainability and resilience.

Economic resilience will also take center stage, to see how we can foster diversification, value addition, and sustainable development to reduce structural vulnerability.

The success of this Forum will depend on our collective ability to share knowledge, exchange best practices and develop actionable evidence-based solutions. Each of you bring valuable expertise and rich experience, and I look forward to benefiting from your insights and ideas.

Let us seize this opportunity to reaffirm our shared commitment to building a better and more resilient future for the LDCs, ensuring that no one is left behind.

Once again, I warmly welcome you all to this Forum in Lusaka.

And thank you Finland for bring us here; thank you Zambia for hosting us.

I thank you all.
