In 2025, the African Union has set a powerful and necessary theme: ¡°Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations.¡± It is a call not just for reflection, but for clarity, courage, and a strategic reframing of the reparations discourse.

The calls for reparatory justice can no longer be ignored, speakers at the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent said during the forum¡¯s fourth meeting.

Solidarity and common purpose forged decolonisation and anti-colonialism, won independence in Africa, built momentum towards civil rights in the United States and other parts of the West and brought down the apartheid regime.
