With ongoing violent conflicts and tensions in many parts of the world, the United Nations Secretary General¡¯s Íæż½ã½ãbuilding Fund (PBF) is scaling up its efforts to build and sustain peace while developing partnerships with organizations such as the programme, to support peacebuilding initiatives in conflict-affected situations across the world.
6 June 2018, New York?--?The international community is being urged to increase the role of young people in negotiating and implementing peace agreements, in line with a resolution adopted unanimously by the Security Council on Wednesday.
Recognizing the role youth could play in conflict prevention and resolution, the Security Council today urged the Secretary?General and his Special Envoys to take their views into account in security?related discussions, and to facilitate their equal and full participation at decision?making levels.
The youth population of the world is estimated 1.8 billion, the largest it has ever been. The crucial role that youth can play in promoting peace, security and peacebuilding will be the subject of an EU conference on "Youth, Íæż½ã½ã and Security, Promoting Youth in Íæż½ã½ã building" on 23-24 May in Brussels. It will bring together young peacebuilders, senior EU leaders, the UN, MEPs and civil society from Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean.You can join and follow all the discussions using the hashtag #youth4peace.
Tapping the potential and creativity of young people is indispensable to prevent conflict and build peace, the United Nations youth envoy said Monday, urging governments to create conditions that allow their meaningful participation in civic and political lives.
